Zipping a PowerPoint file is a great way to reduce its size for easier sharing and storage.

This guide will walk you through the process on both Mac and Windows computers.

Zipping on a Mac

  1. image Click Finder. Finder is a blue icon with a smiling face located at the bottom of your screen.
  2. image Click on the Search Bar. This is found in the upper-right corner of the Finder window.
  3. image Type in the name of the PowerPoint file you want to zip.
  4. image CTRL + Click on the file.
  5. image Click on “Compress [your_filename]”.
  6. image Enter a new name (optional). Note that your original PowerPoint file and the new compressed file can share the same name since they are different types of files.
  7. image Press Return.

Zipping on Windows

  1. image Click Start. This is located in the lower-left corner of your screen.
    • If you’re using Windows 8, press the Windows key on the bottom-left of your keyboard.
  2. image Type in the name of the PowerPoint file you want to zip.
  3. image Right-click the file.
  4. image Click on “Open File Location”.
  5. image Right-click the PowerPoint file.
  6. image Hover your mouse over “Send To”.
  7. image Click on “Compressed (zipped) Folder”.
  8. image Enter a new name (optional). As with Mac, your original PowerPoint file and the new compressed file can share the same name.
  9. image Press Enter.
