Zipping a PowerPoint file is a great way to reduce its size for easier sharing and storage.
This guide will walk you through the process on both Mac and Windows computers.
Zipping on a Mac
- Click Finder. Finder is a blue icon with a smiling face located at the bottom of your screen.
- Click on the Search Bar. This is found in the upper-right corner of the Finder window.
- Type in the name of the PowerPoint file you want to zip.
- CTRL + Click on the file.
- Click on “Compress [your_filename]”.
- Enter a new name (optional). Note that your original PowerPoint file and the new compressed file can share the same name since they are different types of files.
- Press Return.
Zipping on Windows

Click Start. This is located in the lower-left corner of your screen.
- If you’re using Windows 8, press the Windows key on the bottom-left of your keyboard.
- Type in the name of the PowerPoint file you want to zip.
- Right-click the file.
- Click on “Open File Location”.
- Right-click the PowerPoint file.
- Hover your mouse over “Send To”.
- Click on “Compressed (zipped) Folder”.
- Enter a new name (optional). As with Mac, your original PowerPoint file and the new compressed file can share the same name.
- Press Enter.
