Zipping a PowerPoint file is a great way to reduce its size for easier sharing and storage.
This guide will walk you through the process on both Mac and Windows computers.
Zipping on a Mac
Click Finder. Finder is a blue icon with a smiling face located at the bottom of your screen.
Click on the Search Bar. This is found in the upper-right corner of the Finder window.
Type in the name of the PowerPoint file you want to zip.
CTRL + Click on the file.
Click on “Compress [your_filename]”.
Enter a new name (optional). Note that your original PowerPoint file and the new compressed file can share the same name since they are different types of files.
Press Return.
Zipping on Windows
Click Start. This is located in the lower-left corner of your screen.
- If you’re using Windows 8, press the Windows key on the bottom-left of your keyboard.
Type in the name of the PowerPoint file you want to zip.
Right-click the file.
Click on “Open File Location”.
Right-click the PowerPoint file.
Hover your mouse over “Send To”.
Click on “Compressed (zipped) Folder”.
Enter a new name (optional). As with Mac, your original PowerPoint file and the new compressed file can share the same name.
Press Enter.
