It can be difficult to create a visually appealing presentation slide.

One way to enhance your slides is by utilizing a typography design such as curved text. This technique not only adds flair to your presentation but can also draw the audience’s attention to specific sections or phrases.

In this guide, we’ll explore what curved text is and how to create it in PowerPoint. Additionally, you will learn the method to wrap text around images in your presentations.

What Is Curved Text?

Curved text is a typography style in which the text follows a non-linear path. In PowerPoint, curved text can appear in various formats, including:

  • Circular Curved Text: This style starts at a point and loops back to meet the starting location.
  • Downward Curved Text: The text curves downward from the baseline and then returns to the line.
  • Upward Curved Text: This type arches upward from the baseline before curving back down.

Incorporating curved text into your slides can significantly enhance their visual appeal.

When to Use a Curved Text Box in PowerPoint

Curved text can serve as a design element or emphasize important information. Here are some effective applications of curved text:

1. Creating a Subtitle

When designing a PowerPoint slide, many people include a title and a corresponding subtitle. By curving the subtitle, you can add a whimsical touch that captures your audience’s attention.

2. Wrapping Around Images

If an image occupies a significant portion of your slide, curved text can creatively surround it. While this is best suited for short sentences, it effectively highlights both the image and the accompanying text.

3. As Animation

Adding animation to curved text can further engage your audience by introducing movement. However, it’s essential to use animation sparingly; excessive movement can detract from the intended focus.

For logo design, using curved text can make your logo more memorable and visually interesting compared to traditional straight text.

How to Curve Text in PowerPoint

In this tutorial, I’m using PowerPoint version 16.69 on macOS.

Let’s dive into the step-by-step process of creating curved text in PowerPoint:

1. Choose a Template

In this tutorial, I will be using the Arty template from Envato Elements, which features over 50 unique slides designed for optimal text and image placement in a 16:9 format. The template includes various charts, graphs, icons, and device mockups that can enhance your presentation.

2. Insert a Text Box

To begin, insert a text box into your desired slide (for example, slide seven). Click on the Insert tab, then select the WordArt button from the toolbar. A menu will appear, allowing you to choose your preferred WordArt style.

3. Type Your Text

After selecting the WordArt style, a text box will appear in the center of your slide. Delete the default text, then click inside the box to enter your own text. You can reposition the text box by clicking and dragging it to your desired location.

4. Text Effects
