How to Add a Meme to Your Presentation

Once you’ve chosen a meme, you’ll need to know how to add it to your PowerPoint presentation. This guide will use the premium Terrenifa Multipurpose PowerPoint Template from Envato Elements.

I’m using macOS on PowerPoint Version 16.62. If you have a different operating system or software version, your results may vary.

1. Choose a Template

When selecting a template, look for one that includes placeholders in the description. Picture placeholders simplify the process of adding images; all you need to do is drag and drop.

For example, the premium Terrenifa template includes picture placeholders. There are many other excellent premium presentation templates on Envato Elements that also feature picture placeholders.

2. Choose Your Meme

Next, select a meme that resonates with your audience and aligns with the topic of your presentation. You can find relevant memes by searching online with your topic followed by the word “meme.”

3. Choose the Slide

Decide where to place the meme in your presentation. I recommend slide 3 because it has a picture placeholder and sufficient text space.

If there’s a picture placeholder but you prefer a different layout, you have two options:

1. Drag-and-Drop

Drag and drop the slide to the desired position in the presentation. In PowerPoint, mini versions of your slides appear on the left. Click and drag the slide to the new location; a red line will indicate where it will be placed.

2. Copy and Insert Slide

Alternatively, copy a slide with a picture placeholder to your desired location. Right-click on the slide, select Duplicate Slide, and then use the first method to rearrange it.

4. Add the Meme

There are three methods to add your meme to a slide:

1. Drag-and-Drop

After saving the meme to your computer, simply drag and drop the image into the picture placeholder, and it should appear immediately.

2. Use Insert Picture File Button

Click the Insert Picture from File button located in the middle of the picture placeholder. This will open the file explorer; locate your meme file and double-click it to add it to the slide.

You may need to adjust the image size.

3. Use Insert Tab

Alternatively, click on the Insert tab in the toolbar. Click the Pictures button, choose the appropriate option based on your file’s location, double-click your meme file, and adjust as necessary.
