Applying Filters to Pictures in PowerPoint
3 minutes read
In order to make your presentation more cohesive and harmonious, all the pictures you use should have the same style.
This increases the visual impact and, at the same time, your audience will remember your speech for sure. There are many ways to boost the pictures in your PowerPoint presentations without having to use specific graphics editor software. In this Slidesgo School tutorial, you’ll learn how to apply filters to your pictures in PowerPoint.
Applying Artistic Effects
To enhance your images with artistic flair, follow these steps:
- Open your PowerPoint presentation.
- Select the picture you want to apply an effect to.
- On the Picture Format tab, in the Adjust group, click Artistic Effects.
You will see a list of effects. Choose the one that best suits your needs to apply it to the picture.
Please note that only one artistic effect can be applied at a time. If you try to apply a new effect, it will replace the previous one.
- Once applied, you can adjust the effect. Keep in mind that these adjustments modify the filter, not the picture itself. To change the transparency, click Artistic Effects → Artistic Effects Options → Transparency.
- You can also modify parameters related to the intensity of the filter. The specific parameters vary depending on the applied effect. For example, if you choose Chalk Sketch, you can adjust its pressure by selecting Artistic Effects → Artistic Effects Options → Pressure.
- Alternatively, if you choose the Light Screen effect, you can modify the “Grid size” parameter.
- If you want to reset the image, click Artistic Effects → Artistic Effects Options → Reset. This will revert the picture to its original state, removing the filter.
Applying Picture Effects
For more standard picture enhancements, you can apply various picture effects by following these simple steps:
- Open your PowerPoint presentation.
- Go to the slide containing the image you want to modify and select it.
- On the Picture Format tab, in the Picture Styles group, click Picture Effects. A menu with different options will appear:
- Picture Format → Picture Effects → Preset: Here, you’ll find a list of presets to choose from.
- Picture Format → Picture Effects → Shadow: You can add an inner shadow, outer shadow, or a perspective shadow.
- Picture Format → Picture Effects → Reflection: This option allows you to create a reflection of your picture.
- Picture Format → Picture Effects → Glow: Select from this list if you want to add a glowing effect to the picture.
- Picture Format → Picture Effects → Soft Edges: This option lets you soften the edges of the picture to help it blend better with the background.
- Picture Format → Picture Effects → Bevel: Choose from these options to add depth to the edges of your picture, giving it a framed appearance.
- Picture Format → Picture Effects → 3-D Rotation: Selecting an option from this list will modify the picture to appear in 3D with various perspectives.
When using these effects, ensure that the ones you apply to your pictures are consistent to achieve the best results for your presentation.
