Sometimes, you might need some fixed elements to appear in all your slides, such as the date or a text. You can insert footers in your PowerPoint presentation to further customize it, so in this Slidesgo School tutorial, we’ll teach you how to do it.

Adding Footers

To add footers to your slides, follow these simple steps:

  1. Open your presentation in PowerPoint.
  2. Select the slide where you want to add a footer.
  3. Go to the Insert tab and, in the Text group, click on Header & Footer.

  1. A new window will open. On the Slide tab, check the Footer box. There’s a text field below where you can enter the text for the footer.

  1. When you’re done, there are two options for applying the changes:

    • Apply: This will apply the changes to the selected slide only.
    • Apply to All: This will apply the changes to all the slides in your presentation.
  2. Once you choose the desired option, your footer text will appear on your presentation.

  1. The text in the footer is still editable. To modify it, go to the Home tab. You can change the font, size, and color of the text using the options in the Font group. For text alignment, use the settings found in the Paragraph group. To adjust the fill color or outline color, or to apply effects like shadows, explore the options in the Drawing group.

  1. If you’ve applied a footer to all the slides, keep in mind that any adjustments made to one individual slide won’t affect the footer on the other slides.

Adding Footers in Our Templates

To add footers in one of our templates, follow these steps:

  1. Open one of our templates in PowerPoint.
  2. Access the master slides by clicking on the View tab, then selecting Slide Master from the Master Views group.

  1. Select the slide master (the first one, which acts as the parent slide), then navigate to the Slide Master tab and click on Master Layout.

  1. A dialog box will appear where you must check the Footer option. Then, click OK. A footer text box will appear at the bottom of your slides.

  1. To ensure this footer box appears on all slides, check the Footers option located in the Master Layout group on the Slide Master tab. This box needs to be checked for each layout master. Note that selecting multiple layout masters at once and checking this box will not work as intended; it will apply the change only to the currently selected layout master. If you want the footer to appear only on some slides, check Footers only for the layout masters from which those specific slides derive.

  1. Exit the Slide Master by clicking on Close Master View, located on the Slide Master tab.

  1. Now, you can follow the instructions from the first section of this tutorial to edit the footers as needed.
