Choosing colors is quite important when creating a presentation. In indeed, you must adapt the hues depending on the topic and your audience.

In this post, we are going to learn how to work with colors in your PowerPoint template. Remember that our templates are 100% editable! You can change the color of all their elements!

How to Change the Color of Themes

If you have read a little bit about how to choose hues for your presentation, you may have made your mind about the colors you want to employ. Are you willing to create your own color palette? Remember that our templates already include their own color palettes.

  1. Go to View in the toolbar, and select Slide Master.
  2. Look for the section Colors, and then click on Customize Colors….
  3. A dropdown menu with different options will appear.

  1. Review the sections in the menu: Text/Background-Light (1, 2), Text/Background-Dark (1, 2), Accent (1-6), Hyperlink, and Followed hyperlink.
  2. Click on the color square next to the sections to see a series of hues, including Theme colors.
  3. To add a custom color, click on More colors.
  4. You will encounter two tabs: Standard and Custom.
  5. In Standard, there is a hexagon with different colors. Click on any color and then click OKSave.
  6. To customize your color further, select the Custom tab. Here, you can enter a hex code or use the color picker. You can choose between RGB and HSL modes.
  7. After making your selection, click OKSave.
  8. The new color will be applied to all elements that had the Text/Background-Dark 1 hue. Choose the one you need!
  9. Click on Close Master View (upper right corner) when you finish.

Applying Colors and Gradients: Texts, Vectors, and Backgrounds

Let’s stop for a moment. Do you remember the color sections that we mentioned? Text/Background-Light (1, 2), Text/Background-Dark (1, 2), Accent (1-6), Hyperlink, and Followed hyperlink. These sections are crucial for applying colors across different elements in your presentation.

If you want to change hyperlink colors in PowerPoint, you need to utilize the Hyperlink section. Any changes made here will apply to all links you add.

Changing Text Colors

To change the color of your text:

  1. If Formatting Texts is not your cup of tea, it’s time to learn a little bit more about it!
  2. Once you’ve decided on your typefaces, select your text. In the toolbar, click on Font color.
  3. The first row of colors corresponds to the Theme Colors. Choose any of them!

Changing Vector Colors

For changing the color of vectors:

  • If the vectors are not part of the master slides:
    1. Click on the image and select the element you want to change.
    2. Click on Shape Fill and choose a Theme color from the first row of hues.

  • If the vector is part of the master slides:
    1. Click on View in the toolbar → Slide Master.
    2. Find the vector you want to change.
    3. Double-click on it, then right-click → Fill. Select a color from the first row.
    4. You can also change the Outline if necessary.

  • After adjustments, click on the first slide and select Close Master View.

Changing the Background Color

To change the background color:

  1. In the toolbar, go to ViewSlide Master.
  2. Click on Background StylesFormat Background.
  3. You can choose from different colors and styles.
  4. For Solid Fill, select the color and transparency level.
  5. For Gradient Fill, explore options like Preset gradients, Type, Direction, and more.
  6. To add a picture or texture, choose Picture or texture fill and set transparency.
  7. For a pattern background, select Pattern fill and choose your desired colors.
  8. Once done, click Apply to all and then go to the first slide to click on Close Master View.

Editing Colors: Gradients and Transparencies

In addition to backgrounds, you can apply transparencies to shapes and vectors. Here’s how:

  1. Click on the preferred image and select the element you want to change.
  2. Right-click on the element → FillGradients.
  3. Click on More gradients.
  4. In Fill options, ensure Solid is selected and adjust the preferred transparency.
  5. Click Done!

Downloading and Editing a Color Variant

To download a color variant for different templates, follow these steps:

  1. Go to our webpage and find a theme you like. If it has variants, they will be displayed as colored bubbles.
  2. Click on the title of the template to go to its main page.
  3. Under Themes, click on each bubble to preview the variants.
  4. Choose Download a PowerPoint template.
  5. Now you can edit the template as described above!
