How to Insert 3D PowerPoint Elements

Note: The following instructions apply only to subscribers of the Microsoft 365 package.

1. In the Insert tab, select the 3D models option.

   

2. PowerPoint allows you to insert your own three-dimensional objects via the drop-down selection From file. Alternatively, you can access an extensive library of 3D elements by clicking From online sources.

3. Using the From online sources option opens a window with 3D elements sorted by theme. You can also search for specific keywords. Some elements are animated, indicated by an icon of a running man.

   

4. Click on the desired 3D element to insert it into your slide. You can select and insert multiple elements simultaneously.

Using and Editing Animated 3D PowerPoint Elements

If you choose an animated 3D object, the animation will play automatically on the slide. You can pause it by clicking on the animation, which will highlight the element; then click the Start/Stop icon at the bottom left.

To edit the animation, click on the object to open the 3D model tab, which provides various editing options:

• Scenes: Choose from up to eighteen different play options for your animated 3D object.

  

• Clicking on your preferred scene allows you to play multiple scenes by switching to the Animations tab and clicking Add animation.

  

• Edit animations further through the drop-down menu at Animations, letting you apply effects such as rotation or fade.

  

• Under Effect Options, you can specify how often your animation is played and set exact playback times under Display Duration.

  

• The Animation Area under Advanced Animation provides an overview of all animations on your slide, allowing for more detailed settings.

  

• In the 3D Model tab, you can choose the perspective for displaying the element under 3D Model Views, as well as adjust size and orientation. If you’re not satisfied with your edits, simply click Reset 3D model.

Further Editing of 3D PowerPoint Objects

To personalize your 3D element further, right-click on it and select Format 3D model. An editing menu will appear on the right side of your screen.

• Reposition or resize your 3D object by clicking on 3D element. The control panel will appear; hold and drag to tilt or rotate the model, and use the image handles to zoom in/out or move it.

  

• For rotation, select the pentagon icon and click 3D rotation to use preset options or manually rotate along the X, Y, or Z axes.

• To change the color, click the color bucket icon. Under Fill, select Monochrome fill for a single color or Gradient for a multi-color effect.

  

• To insert an image within a 3D object, use the color bucket icon and navigate to Picture or texture fill. Select File to locate your image and click Insert.

• Add shadows by selecting the pentagon icon and clicking Shadow, then adjust the sliders to achieve your desired effect.

  

• Adjust lighting by selecting the cube icon to set the desired conditions under Preferences.
