Enhance Your PowerPoint with Images
4 minutes read
It’s commonly known that images in presentations get more attention than long texts.
To use this effect for your presentation without missing out on important information, there are several options. In this article, we will introduce two options that allow lecturers to combine texts and images in a visually appealing way.
Option #1: Creating Your Slides in a Grid Look
The grid look is a stylish way to unite image and text elements on your slides. This technique is perfect for combining product pictures with product information. Below, we provide a step-by-step guide on how to make the most of this technique.
1. Create the Grid
Start by placing shapes (like rectangles) in various sizes on your slide and adding white outlines to the shapes.
2. Prepare the Image
Select all the shapes in the grid by holding the Shift key and grouping them using Control + G or Command + Option + G for Mac. Then, paste the desired image over the grid. Adjust the image to fit the grid and cut it out using Control + X for Windows or Command + X for Mac.

3. Insert the Image into the Grid
Right-click on the grid, select “Format Shape,” then choose “Image or Texture Fill” and select “Paste from Clipboard.” Your selected image will now fill the individual shapes of the grid.
4. Add Text and Color
Now, you can fill the grid sections with appropriate colors and text. Since the image and text are part of the grid, they work together as a cohesive unit, making it easier for your audience to absorb the information. Ensure that the font is easily readable and that there is a strong color contrast between the text and background.
Option #2: Text Over Images
As an alternative to the grid look, you can enhance your presentation by adding text directly over your images. There are several design options to consider:
Possibility #1: As a Heading or Chapter Isolator
Choose an image to serve as the background for your slide. Place a shape (like a rectangle) on top of the image, and edit the shape’s fill and transparency. We recommend lowering the transparency enough for the background image to shimmer through.
After adjusting the shape, you can write your heading or other relevant information on it.
Possibility #2: Longer Text on an Image
To place longer text on an image, start with the same steps as in possibility #1. Fill the shape containing the text with about 50% transparency to ensure your audience can read it comfortably.
Possibility #3: Rectangle with Transparent Gradient
Get creative by using a gradient effect between the shape and the image. Rectangles or squares work best as they can easily adapt to the slide’s shape. Drag your shape over a side of your slide and apply a transparent gradient for depth.

Advantages of Combining Images and Text
While these solutions may seem more complex than simple image or text slides, they bring several advantages:
#1: Capture Audience Attention
Slides that consist only of text can quickly bore your audience. Too much text may overwhelm them, while monotonous slides can lead to decreased attention. By combining images and text, you can create more engaging presentations that maintain audience interest.

#2: Professional-Looking Design
Even if you consider yourself an amateur in PowerPoint, you can impress your audience with visually appealing image and text combinations.
#3: Effectively Introduce Products
Instead of introducing your products with plain images and text, use the grid look to connect these elements visually. This approach will enhance your product presentations, making them more attractive and informative.
