PowerPoint provides an excellent feature for recording your screen, allowing you to add audio and either save the recording separately or embed it directly into a slide.

This capability is particularly useful for demonstrating content or detailing individual steps, such as software processes. By utilizing screen recording, your audience can follow along in real-time, gaining a better understanding of the task at hand without needing to visualize the steps independently.

Getting Started with Screen Recording

Before you begin, ensure you have the necessary equipment, including a sound card, microphone, and adequate storage space on your target drive. Speakers are also required to playback any sound during the recording.

Saving Your Recording as a Separate File

If you prefer to save the recording as a standalone file:

  • Right-click the video frame and select Save Media as.

Trimming Your Video

You may want to shorten the video by removing unnecessary segments. PowerPoint allows you to trim the beginning and end of the video, but editing within the video itself is not currently supported. To trim your video:

  1. Right-click the Video Frame

    • Choose Trim from the context menu.
  2. Use the Trim Video Box:

    • Play the video to identify the point you wish to trim and then pause it.
    • Click on either the start or end point of the video and drag the arrow to your desired position.
